According to the Federal Reserve, appraisal reviews "have to figure out whether the appraisal or evaluation is applicable for the transaction, the uncertainty of the transaction, and whether the actions by which the collateral valuation is attained guarantees independence and quality." In addition, they "must signify whether the appraisal or evaluation report is consistent with the letter of engagement, which describes the extent of the appraisal assignment." The Federal Reserve also states that "some financial institutions add typical reviews with post-funding assessments of appraisal quality for a few of their higher-risk or greater-value affairs as a control to help in identifying valuation dilemmas."
